Canada is one of the world's most popular education destinations due to its high-quality education and the opportunities it offers international students. One of the most frequently asked questions is:

Is it possible to work while studying in Canada?

Yes, it is possible! However, there are certain conditions and permit types.

1. Work Rights for Students International students enrolled in a full-time college, university, or language school in Canada can work up to 20 hours per week on or off campus without needing to apply for a work permit. During breaks (such as summer vacation or term breaks), this limit can increase to full-time work.

2. On-Campus Work Opportunities to work in the school library, cafeteria, or student services office may be available. These jobs are usually part-time and are scheduled to fit around the student's class schedule. No additional permission is required; the study permit covers this right.

3. Off-Campus Work Students enrolled at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) approved by the Canadian government can also work off-campus. They are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week. During certain periods (e.g., summer vacation), students may also work full-time.

4. Co-Op and Internship Programs Some departments include mandatory internship (co-op) periods. In this case, the student must obtain an additional work permit (Co-op Work Permit). This permit can be easily applied for with an official letter from the school and is usually processed quickly.

5. What Can You Gain by Working? You can cover part of your education expenses. You will have the opportunity to get to know Canadian work culture up close. You will have an advantage in the transition process to a post-graduation work permit (PGWP).
